Srinagar, April 7 The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast a five-day spell of rain across Jammu and Kashmir, beginning Tuesday, April 8. After a brief dry phase, the union territory is likely to experience scattered to widespread rainfall along with thundershowers, especially in the Kashmir Valley.

Dry Weather for Now, Rain from April 9 Onward
According to the IMD, the weather across Jammu and Kashmir is expected to remain largely dry over the next 24 hours. However, from Tuesday, light and scattered showers may begin across several areas, gradually intensifying.
-
Kashmir Valley: Widespread rainfall likely on April 9 and 10
-
Jammu Region: Scattered rainfall forecast from April 9 to 11
-
The wet spell is likely to continue till April 12 across the entire union territory
This incoming weather system is expected to bring relief from the unseasonal heatwave that has gripped both regions in recent days.
Night Temperatures Above Normal, Rain May Bring Relief
Despite the looming rain, temperatures have remained above seasonal averages, both during the day and night:
-
Pahalgam (South Kashmir) recorded the lowest minimum temperature at 4.4°C
-
Bhaderwah (Jammu region) was the coldest in the south at 11.1°C
-
Srinagar recorded a minimum of 9.4°C, which is 2.5°C above normal
-
Gulmarg (North Kashmir) reported 6.0°C, 5°C above the average
Daytime temperatures have also surged, with Kashmir’s daytime highs exceeding normal by 7–9°C, and Jammu’s by 5–7°C.
Tourism Impact and Precautions
The anticipated rainfall may impact travel and tourism in popular destinations such as Gulmarg, Pahalgam, and Sonmarg, especially due to slippery roads and reduced visibility. Tourists and locals are advised to stay updated with official advisories and plan travel accordingly.
The IMD has urged residents to take precautions against sudden weather changes, especially in areas prone to landslides or waterlogging.
