Kupwara, February 20 The upper reaches of North Kashmir’s Kupwara district received fresh snowfall, leading to the suspension of vehicular movement on several key routes. Authorities have confirmed that traffic will resume only after weather conditions improve, ensuring safe travel for all commuters.

Heavy Snow Accumulation in Key Areas
An official reported that several high-altitude regions, including Z-Gali in Machil, Farkiyan Top in Keran, and Sadhna Top, have witnessed snow accumulation of 4 to 5 inches. In light of these conditions, the district administration has imposed temporary traffic restrictions to prevent accidents on the slippery and treacherous roads.
Continuous Rainfall in Low-Lying Areas
While Kupwara’s higher altitudes remain blanketed in snow, persistent rainfall has been recorded in the lower-lying areas since early morning. The inclement weather has further complicated road conditions, increasing the risk of landslides and reduced visibility.
Safety First: Authorities Urge Caution
The Kupwara administration has advised residents to exercise caution and avoid unnecessary travel in affected areas. Restoration efforts, including snow clearance and road safety checks, will be undertaken once weather conditions stabilize.
Travelers and residents are encouraged to stay updated on official announcements regarding road reopening and alternative routes.
