Monsoon Forecast: IMD Issues Heavy Rainfall and Thunderstorm Alert in 12 States for Next 7 Hours

IMD’s Weather Alert Sparks Warnings Across North and Northeast INDIA

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for several parts of the country as heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, lightning, and strong winds are expected to affect 12 states over the next 7 hours. The weather disruption has already impacted the Delhi-NCR region, leading to traffic chaos and sudden temperature drops.

Monsoon Forecast

On Friday evening, Delhi experienced a sharp fall in temperature, up to 10°C in some areas, following intense winds, thunderstorms, and rain. Trees were uprooted, and visibility issues disrupted normal life. While Saturday morning brought sunshine, unsettled weather is expected to persist in the coming days.

Delhi Weather Forecast (April 12–16)

According to IMD:

  • Light rain and overcast skies will prevail in Delhi-NCR from April 12 to April 16
  • Thunderstorms and strong winds are expected during this period
  • From April 16, heat wave conditions may return, with temperatures soaring to 45°C
  • The weather is predicted to clear on Sunday, followed by hot, dry winds

Traffic advisory: Residents are urged to exercise caution while traveling due to the risk of fallen trees and power disruptions.

States Under Rainfall and Thunderstorm Alert

The IMD has forecast rain, thunderstorms, and lightning for the following 12 states/regions:

  • West Bengal
  • Sikkim
  • Arunachal Pradesh
  • Assam
  • Meghalaya
  • Nagaland
  • Tripura
  • Jharkhand
  • Uttar Pradesh
  • Uttarakhand
  • Madhya Pradesh
  • Rajasthan

In many of these regions, localized flooding, hailstorms, and damaging winds could affect agriculture and transport systems. People are advised to stay indoors during thunderstorms and avoid sheltering under trees.

Uttar Pradesh Weather Update

Residents of Uttar Pradesh have seen a sudden shift in weather patterns, with light to moderate rainfall and cold winds sweeping across both western and eastern parts.

  • Thunderstorms with hailstorm risk are likely in several areas on April 12
  • The IMD has advised caution due to the potential for intense storms and wind damage.

Stay Safe Amid Unstable Weather

The unseasonal weather activity is a result of shifting wind patterns and moisture-laden air from the Bay of Bengal and the Arabian Sea. The IMD continues to monitor the situation and urges residents to stay updated through official advisories.
