IMD’s Weather Alert Sparks Warnings Across North and Northeast India
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for several parts of the country as heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, lightning, and strong winds are expected to affect 12 states over the next 7 hours. Delhi Weather Forecast (April 12–16)
According to IMD:
- Light rain and overcast skies will prevail in Delhi-NCR from April 12 to April 16
- Thunderstorms and strong winds are expected during this period
- From April 16, heat wave conditions may return, with temperatures soaring to 45°C
- The weather is predicted to clear on Sunday, followed by hot, dry winds
Traffic advisory: Residents are urged to exercise caution while traveling due to the risk of fallen trees and power disruptions.
States Under Rainfall and Thunderstorm Alert
The IMD has forecast rain, thunderstorms, and lightning for the following 12 states/regions:
- West Bengal
- Sikkim
- Arunachal Pradesh
- Assam
- Meghalaya
- Nagaland
- Tripura
- Jharkhand
- Uttar Pradesh
- Uttarakhand
- Madhya Pradesh
- Rajasthan
In many of these regions, localized flooding, hailstorms, and damaging winds could affect agriculture and transport systems. People are advised to stay indoors during thunderstorms and avoid sheltering under trees.
