Jerusalem, May 23 – Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has launched a scathing attack on the leaders of France, the United Kingdom, and Canada, accusing them of siding against justice and humanity. His remarks come in response to growing international pressure on Israel to impose an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and amid threats of potential sanctions if military operations are not halted.
“You Want Us to Ceasefire with Mass Murderers”: Netanyahu
In a strongly worded video statement, Netanyahu referred to a recent deadly shooting in Washington, where an assailant allegedly killed a Jewish couple—Yaron Lishinsky and Sarah Milgrom—because of their faith. Citing the incident as an example of targeted antisemitic violence, he underscored Israel’s ongoing battle against what he described as genocidal threats from Hamas.
Addressing French President Emmanuel Macron, UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, and Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, Netanyahu said:
“You are calling for a ceasefire while we are fighting a mass-murdering terrorist organization. You want us to let Hamas regroup, rebuild its forces, and strike again. You are standing against justice, against humanity, and on the wrong side of history.”
International Pressure Mounts
The rebuke comes days after the governments of France, Britain, and Canada jointly urged Israel to implement an immediate humanitarian ceasefire in Gaza, citing deteriorating civilian conditions. Some leaders went further, hinting at sanctions if Israel failed to de-escalate.
Israel has faced growing global criticism over its continued military actions in Gaza, especially amid rising civilian casualties. However, Netanyahu’s administration has maintained that its operations are focused solely on dismantling Hamas, which it views as an existential threat to Israeli security.
Netanyahu Draws Red Line
Netanyahu’s sharp rhetoric signals Israel’s firm rejection of outside pressure to halt its campaign against Hamas. In recent weeks, the Israeli government has emphasized that any premature ceasefire would amount to a strategic victory for Hamas, which has governed the Gaza Strip since 2007 and is designated as a terrorist organization by the US, EU, and others.
