Political Aspirations: Parakram and Kanika Rathore Contesting Panchayat Elections

Churu, October 24: Parakram Singh Rathore and his wife Kanika Singh are entering the political arena as candidates for the Churu District Council elections, representing the BJP. Parakram is contesting from Ward 39, while Kanika is running from Ward 23. This marks their debut in electoral politics.

Parakram serves as the president of the Churu District Cricket Association and is the district general secretary of the BJP in Churu. In September, he had filed his nomination for the presidency of the Rajasthan Cricket Association (RCA) but withdrew before the voting took place.

Initial Ticket Hold, Then Symbol Granted

Initially, Parakram’s ticket was put on hold by the party. Sources indicate that during a ticket deliberation at the BJP headquarters, Rajendra Rathore, Parakram’s father and a senior leader, expressed his displeasure over the decision to finalize Kanika’s ticket while holding Parakram’s. On the same day, Parakram submitted his nomination for Ward 39, and by Thursday evening, the party officially granted him the symbol.

Rajendra Rathore commented on his son and daughter-in-law’s candidacy, stating that the party made thoughtful decisions regarding the tickets. “Participating in elections is a right for everyone in this democracy,” he emphasized.

Kanika’s Vision: Development Requires Basic Amenities

Kanika Singh highlighted that the development of villages is incomplete without basic amenities like electricity and drinking water. She pledged to prioritize these needs if elected. With a military officer as her father, Kanika’s education spanned several states, culminating in a degree from Maharshi Dayanand Saraswati University, Ajmer, in 2007. She has been actively involved in the education sector.

Parakram stated that his goal is to strengthen the BJP organization. He has been politically active for over two decades, contributing to election campaigns, poster placements, and organizing party meetings.

Political Comeback After Loss in Tarangar

Rajendra Rathore faced defeat in the 2023 assembly elections from the Tarangar seat in Churu district. Consequently, the candidacy of his son and daughter-in-law in the panchayat elections is seen as politically significant, especially in light of the upcoming 2028 assembly elections. Voting for the district council members in Churu is scheduled for November, with results expected on November 20.
