Barmer, April 13: Political tensions are escalating regarding Rajasthan’s ambitious refinery project. BJP state president Madan Rathore sharply criticized former Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot‘s statements, labeling them as misleading and factually incorrect. Rathore stated that during Gehlot’s tenure, the project was stalled for years due to slow progress, unclear policies, and poor decisions, leading to significant cost overruns and economic losses for the state.
Rathore accused the Congress government of failing to establish a clear financial model for the refinery project and not making timely decisions. This lack of clarity resulted in confusion among investors and hindered the project’s advancement. He emphasized that the current BJP government has accelerated the project through transparent policies and decisive actions, which are expected to yield real benefits for the state.
He also highlighted that under the previous agreement, the Rajasthan government was obligated to pay ₹3,736 crore annually to the related company for 15 years without interest, which was against the state’s interests. The BJP government has made substantial improvements to this agreement, ensuring savings of nearly ₹40,000 crore by reducing this financial burden.
Rathore questioned the Congress party’s approach, stating that mere announcements and foundation-laying ceremonies do not complete projects. He noted that in 2013, neither land acquisition nor environmental clearances were completed, preventing any substantial work on the project. The BJP government has systematically addressed these obstacles to move the project forward.
He further mentioned that the state’s financial contribution has now been limited to approximately ₹16,845 crore, alleviating pressure on state resources. According to Rathore, the project is expected to create new job opportunities, with estimates rising from 10,000-30,000 jobs to around 90,000 direct and indirect jobs.
Rathore asserted that the BJP government’s priority is not just to complete the project but also to create employment for youth and promote local industries. He advised Gehlot to engage in self-reflection, asserting that the BJP bases its arguments on facts and research.
