Prayagraj Violence: Police Crack Down with NSA, 50 Arrested and 40 Motorcycles Seized

Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh – July 1, 2025:
In response to violent clashes that erupted in the Isauta village of Karchana Tehsil, Prayagraj, police have launched a strict crackdown against the miscreants involved. Over 50 individuals have been arrested so far, and 40 motorcycles—abandoned at the scene—have been seized. Authorities have invoked the National Security Act (NSA) against those found responsible for orchestrating the unrest.

What Happened in Prayagraj?

The chaos began when supporters of Azad Samaj Party leader Chandrashekhar Azad clashed with police on their way to meet a Dalit family in Isauta village. Police stopped the leader citing security reasons, which allegedly enraged the supporters and led to violent protests, stone-pelting, vandalism, and arson. The situation escalated quickly, with dozens of vehicles—including three police vans—set ablaze and several motorcycles torched.

Police Action and NSA Imposed

As the violence subsided, law enforcement began tracing the culprits using video footage and photographs from the incident. More than 50 individuals have been arrested, and the NSA has been imposed on key instigators to ensure stringent punishment and deter further escalation.

Police have seized 42 unclaimed motorcycles believed to belong to those who fled the scene when authorities intervened. Investigators are now identifying owners based on vehicle registration numbers and plan to issue formal notices for questioning.

Injuries to Civilians and Police

In the violence, police officers, civilians—including women and children—were injured, and multiple government and private vehicles were damaged. The station in-charge and other officers suffered injuries due to intense stone-pelting by the mob.

Chandrashekhar Azad Denies Involvement

Azad Samaj Party chief Chandrashekhar Azad has distanced his party from the violence. In a statement, he claimed,

“Our party workers were peacefully sitting in the Circuit House for 8 hours. The violence seems to be the result of a conspiracy, and those involved are not affiliated with us.”

Police Statement and Situation Update

DCP Vivek Chandra Yadav of Yamuna Nagar stated that a large number of Azad Samaj Party workers gathered near Isauta village. When they were informed that they could not enter the village, some supporters turned aggressive. The police quickly brought the situation under control, and identification of rioters is underway.

“Vehicles were set on fire, police teams were attacked. But law enforcement acted swiftly to regain control,” said DCP Yadav.

What’s Next?

Police have vowed to take strong action against all identified culprits. With NSA provisions now applied, those responsible for inciting violence could face extended detention without bail and trial.

This incident adds to growing concerns about political rallies turning volatile, particularly in rural areas, and highlights the need for preemptive law enforcement coordination and crowd control.
