Rahul Gandhis Convoy Involved in Minor Accident on Purvanchal Expressway

Sultanpur, October 26: A minor accident occurred involving vehicles in the convoy of Rahul Gandhi on the Purvanchal Expressway. The incident took place on Monday morning, resulting in damage to four cars and an ambulance. Fortunately, Rahul Gandhi was unharmed. At the time, he was en route to Sultanpur Court, where he was later acquitted in a defamation case.
According to reports, the collision happened around 11 AM near milestone 89.5 in the Haliapur area of Sultanpur. The vehicles trailing the convoy collided with each other. Prior to this, Rahul Gandhi had arrived at Lucknow Airport, where he was welcomed by Congress workers.
Acquitted in Eight-Year-Old Defamation Case
In a significant development, Rahul Gandhi was acquitted by the Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Shubham Verma in a defamation case on Monday. The court ruled that his comments were not defamatory. Rahul was present in court during the verdict, and Congress supporters celebrated outside. His lawyer, Kashi Prasad Shukla, stated that the defense respects the court’s decision.
This case stemmed from comments made by Rahul Gandhi during the Karnataka Assembly elections, which involved the then BJP National President and current Home Minister Amit Shah. Local BJP leader Vijay Mishra filed a complaint in court on August 4, 2018, leading to an eight-year-long legal battle.
After witness testimonies and statements from the accused, the case even reached the High Court regarding the matching of voice samples, but the complainant’s petition was dismissed. The court had initially set the verdict date for October 13, which was later rescheduled to October 26. A detailed written judgment is yet to be released.
Extensive Security Measures Outside the Court
In anticipation of Rahul Gandhi’s court appearance, the district administration implemented extensive security arrangements. Congress workers gathered in various locations to welcome him with flowers and garlands. Tight security measures were also in place outside the court premises.
Previously, Rahul Gandhi had been in the news for writing to the President regarding the Ankita Bhandari case and had traveled to Vietnam on October 20 amid the SIR controversy.
