Jaipur, March 4, 2026 : Former MLA Sanyam Lodha has filed a caveat petition in the Supreme Court against the RAJASTHAN government after it moved the apex court seeking to defer elections in 113 urban local bodies.

In his caveat, Lodha has requested that he be heard before any order is passed on the state government’s petition. He alleged that the government is trying to postpone the elections by one means or another, even though the polls in these urban bodies are already delayed.
He stated that during the hearing, his side will present its arguments before the Supreme Court on issues related to delimitation and reorganisation.
The Rajasthan government, in its Special Leave Petition (SLP), has said that the High Court quashed the delimitation of 113 out of 309 urban local bodies and sought additional time to conduct the elections.
According to the SLP, while the number of wards in these 113 urban bodies was not changed, their internal boundaries had been altered. The High Court set aside these changes in ward boundaries, and the government has argued that fresh delimitation procedures must be completed, requiring more time.
On November 14, the Rajasthan High Court, while deciding around 439 petitions, directed the state government to conduct Panchayat and urban body elections by April 15. The court had also instructed the government to complete the delimitation process by December 31. During hearings on multiple petitions challenging this order in the Supreme Court, the apex court also directed that elections be held by April 15.
