New Delhi, August 1: Speculation about Shehzad Poonawala’s political future has intensified following his removal of the title ‘National Spokesperson, BJP’ from his social media bio. Reports suggest that he may have submitted his resignation to the BJP leadership for personal reasons. However, there has been no official confirmation from either Poonawala or the BJP regarding this resignation.
Poonawala’s updated bio identifies his religion as Islam, culture as Hindu, and ideology as Indian, while he continues to describe himself as a lifelong supporter of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Currently, there is no mention of his BJP position on his official profile.
The situation surrounding his resignation remains unclear. Various media outlets have reported on Poonawala’s potential departure from the BJP, but many have also noted that he has not issued a detailed statement, nor has the party officially confirmed any resignation. Thus, this matter is best regarded as pending formal confirmation.
Following the changes to his bio, speculation has arisen regarding his withdrawal from active politics, a new role within the organization, or a shift to another public life sector. Poonawala has yet to comment on these possibilities.
Poonawala first gained attention in 2017 when he questioned the election process for the Congress presidency, alleging that Rahul Gandhi‘s ascension was predetermined and lacked genuine internal democracy. Poonawala began his political journey around 2008 with the Congress party, working in its media research team and later taking on organizational roles in the NSUI’s Pune unit and Maharashtra Congress.
