New Delhi, April 9 In a move aimed at easing access to Provident Fund (PF) savings, the Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) has streamlined the withdrawal process. Users can now withdraw their PF without uploading a passbook or cancelled cheque, a change designed to reduce paperwork and speed up disbursements. Even bigger changes are on the horizon, with a UPI-based PF withdrawal system reportedly under development.

No More Passbook or Cheque Required
EPFO’s newly implemented system enables users to withdraw PF online without bank proof. To initiate a claim:
-
Visit the EPFO Member Portal.
-
Log in with UAN number, password, and captcha.
-
Verify identity using OTP sent to your Aadhaar-linked mobile number.
-
Navigate to the ‘Online Services’ tab and select the applicable form (Form 31, 19, or 10C).
-
Enter and confirm your bank account number, select the form type, and input withdrawal details.
-
Complete the process with Aadhaar OTP e-verification to submit your request.
This move is expected to save time and reduce user inconvenience, especially for those without immediate access to traditional banking documents.
UPI-Based Withdrawal System in Development
In a major development, EPFO is preparing to roll out UPI-based PF withdrawals, allowing users to access their funds using UPI IDs instead of bank details. This would permit withdrawals of up to ₹1 lakh, in line with NPCI’s daily UPI transaction limit.
Labour Secretary Sumita Dawra confirmed to Times of INDIA that the new feature is in the works, saying, “Most EPFO subscribers will benefit from this service, and faster approvals are part of the process.”
Backend Infrastructure Ready
EPFO has created a dedicated backend database for UPI integration and is working closely with the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) to ensure seamless implementation. Once active, this service will allow:
-
Faster PF withdrawals directly through UPI
-
No need for cancelled cheques or passbooks
-
Enhanced account transparency and real-time status tracking
This change marks a significant digital leap for EPFO, especially benefiting workers in semi-urban and rural areas where banking access remains limited.
