JAIPUR, April 12 A strong western disturbance has significantly altered weather conditions across Rajasthan, bringing relief from rising temperatures and a dip in both day and night temperatures. The INDIA Meteorological Department (IMD) has now issued an Orange Alert for 21 districts of the state for April 12, forecasting dust storms, thunderstorms, and light to moderate rain.

Weather Takes a Dramatic Turn Across the State
Over the past three days, the impact of an active western disturbance has kept Rajasthan’s weather relatively cool and pleasant. Several districts, including Jodhpur and surrounding rural areas, witnessed hailstorms late at night, adding to the drop in temperature and intensifying the chill.
IMD officials have confirmed that the ongoing disturbance has led to a temperature drop of up to 3°C across major cities in the state. As a result, maximum daytime temperatures have fallen below 40°C, offering temporary relief from the heatwave conditions typical of this time of year.
Orange Alert for 21 Districts
The IMD has forecasted continuing adverse weather on April 12 with a region-wide Orange Alert for both western and eastern parts of the state. The affected districts include:
-
Western Rajasthan: Jaisalmer, Bikaner, Barmer, Sri Ganganagar, Hanumangarh, Churu, Jodhpur, Pali, Jalore, Nagaur
-
Eastern Rajasthan: Alwar, Bharatpur, Dholpur, Karauli, Sawai Madhopur, Jaipur, Tonk, Bundi, Baran, Kota, Jhalawar
During the alert period, dust-laden winds and thunderstorms accompanied by rain showers are expected to occur in these areas and their surroundings. Residents are advised to take precautionary measures, especially while traveling or working outdoors.
Heatwave to Resume After April 14
The western disturbance is expected to subside after April 12, according to IMD forecasts. Starting April 14, temperatures are likely to rise rapidly, and heatwave (loo) conditions may begin to dominate the region once again.
Advisory for Citizens
Authorities recommend staying indoors during dust storms, securing loose items, and keeping updated through official weather bulletins. Farmers and travelers in affected regions are also urged to take appropriate safety precautions.
