Good Bad Ugly Box Office Collection Day 2: Ajith’s Film Sees Predictable Dip, Yet Holds Strong in Tamil Nadu

CHENNAI, April 12 After a blockbuster Day 1 that saw ₹29.5 crore (nett) in collections, Ajith Kumar’s action-packed entertainer Good Bad Ugly witnessed a dip to ₹13.5 crore on Day 2, bringing its two-day total to ₹42.75 crore (nett) in India. While the fall is noticeable, industry experts suggest it’s a typical post-fan-rush trend, especially for star-led films in Tamil cinema.

Occupancy Trend Shows Promise

Despite the decline in raw numbers, occupancy rates remained encouraging, with an overall average of 50.64% on Day 2. Morning shows opened with a modest 28.80%, but the figures steadily rose throughout the day:

  • Afternoon: 46.87%

  • Evening: 52.99%

  • Night: 73.91%

This upward trajectory indicates that while fan-first hype may have settled, word-of-mouth and casual viewership are beginning to take shape — a promising sign for the weekend.

Tamil Nadu Remains Ajith’s Fortress

As expected, Tamil Nadu continues to be the film’s strongest market:

  • Chennai: 67% overall occupancy, nearly 90% for night shows

  • Dindigul: A surprising outperformer with 78% overall and 95% night occupancy

  • Trichy, Coimbatore, and Pondicherry also posted solid performances

The star power of Ajith Kumar, especially in tier-2 and tier-3 towns, remains undiminished, helping the film secure a strong regional hold.

Mixed Reception in Other Regions

Outside Tamil Nadu, the film’s reach varied:

  • Bengaluru: 27.55% occupancy

  • Kochi and Trivandrum: Moderate traction in Kerala

  • Mumbai: 15.5%

  • Delhi-NCR: 13%

The Telugu-dubbed version also had a modest performance with 15.78% occupancy on Day 2. However, Good Bad Ugly wasn’t marketed as a pan-India release, so these numbers are in line with expectations.

Outlook: All Eyes on the Weekend

Although the second-day dip was sharp, analysts note that this is a standard trend for mass-star vehicles. The weekend, especially Sunday, will be crucial to assess the film’s staying power. If word-of-mouth holds, Good Bad Ugly may well stabilize and secure a solid first-week total.

Ajith’s fanbase, combined with decent audience reception in smaller towns and strong late-evening occupancies, gives the film a stable base to build on. While it may not mirror Jawan-style pan-India dominance, it looks poised for regional box office success.
