ISLAMABAD/SRINAGAR, April 13 A moderate earthquake measuring 5.8 on the Richter scale struck Pakistan on Saturday around 1 PM, sending tremors across the region, including parts of India’s Jammu and Kashmir. Epicenter in Pakistan, Impact Felt Across Borders
The tremor originated in northern Pakistan, with seismic waves rippling across the border and shaking buildings in several areas of Jammu and Kashmir. Residents in Srinagar, Baramulla, and nearby districts reported mild to moderate ground shaking, though no damage or casualties have been reported in either country as of now.
Authorities Monitoring Aftershocks, Urge Caution
Seismologists and disaster response teams in both India and Pakistan are closely monitoring the situation for potential aftershocks. Citizens in affected areas have been advised to remain cautious, avoid panic, and follow safety protocols in case of further seismic activity.
No emergency advisories have been issued, but local authorities remain on alert to address any developments.
A Reminder of the Region’s Seismic Sensitivity
This incident serves as another reminder of the Himalayan region’s high seismic risk, where tectonic plate activity frequently leads to earthquakes. The Indo-Pak border region and parts of North India, including Jammu and Kashmir, lie in Seismic Zone IV and V, the most vulnerable zones in India.
