New Delhi . May 9, 2025 — The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has officially suspended the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 due to escalating military tensions between India and Pakistan. The announcement came hours after a missile and drone strike from Pakistan targeted Indian border regions, prompting nationwide security alerts.

The IPL, which had 12 league matches remaining, has been paused indefinitely. The final was originally scheduled for May 25, but BCCI has not announced any revised schedule as of now.
Match Stopped Midway in Dharamshala
The decision followed an unprecedented incident during the Punjab Kings vs Delhi Capitals match on Thursday in Dharamshala. The game was halted after 10.1 overs, with Punjab at 122/1, when stadium lights were turned off as part of a citywide blackout directive. Spectators were escorted out due to security concerns amid military action.
A BCCI official told PTI, “It doesn’t feel right to continue cricket when the nation is facing such a serious crisis. All stakeholders agreed this is a time for solidarity, not celebration.”
Security Escalations and Nationwide Impact
On May 8 at 8:30 PM, Pakistan launched coordinated missile and drone attacks along the India-Pakistan border affecting Jammu, Punjab, and Rajasthan. In response, the Indian government imposed heightened security protocols, including blackouts in border-adjacent cities.
The IPL disruption is the first in over a decade, reflecting the serious nature of current geopolitical developments.
