Google Messages is getting smarter with its latest update, introducing two of the most requested features from users — Delete for Everyone and Notification Snooze. These additions bring Google’s native messaging app closer to the functionality found on popular platforms like WhatsApp and Telegram, significantly improving the SMS and RCS messaging experience for Android users.

Delete Sent Messages — Now Possible on Google Messages
The headline feature is Delete for Everyone, which finally gives users the option to delete sent messages not just from their own view, but also from the recipient’s screen.
Accidentally sent the wrong message? Wrote something in haste? No worries — simply long-press the message, tap the trash icon, and choose Delete for Everyone. The message will disappear from both sides of the conversation — provided the chat is an RCS conversation.
Important Note: This feature does not work on SMS messages and only functions if both sender and recipient are using RCS on compatible devices.
Notification Snooze — For When You Need to Focus
The second key addition is Notification Snooze, which allows users to temporarily mute message notifications. Whether you’re in a meeting, working, or simply need some quiet time, this feature ensures you can snooze alerts and respond later when it suits you.
Just like WhatsApp, this brings more flexibility and control to how users handle incoming messages — perfect for today’s always-connected world.
Limitations to Know
While Delete for Everyone is a welcome upgrade, it comes with limitations:
-
Works only on RCS conversations — not SMS
-
Recipient must also be using RCS on a compatible device
-
If the other person is on an older phone or SMS, the message may still appear on their end
So while this is a big step forward, full universal support will depend on RCS adoption across networks.
More Personalization for Group Chats
In addition to these core features, Google Messages now allows users to customize RCS group chats with themes and visual enhancements — making conversations more dynamic and personal.
The Verdict: Smarter Messaging for Android
With Delete for Everyone, Notification Snooze, and new group chat features, Google Messages is rapidly evolving into a modern, competitive messaging platform. While SMS limitations remain, for RCS users, the experience now feels more in line with apps like WhatsApp or Signal — making texting on Android more intuitive, secure, and fun.
If you haven’t updated yet — this is a good time to head to the Google Play Store and grab the latest version of Google Messages.
