UP Monsoon Alert: IMD Issues Heavy Rain and Thunderstorm Warning in 40 Districts Across Uttar Pradesh

Lucknow – Monsoon activity has intensified across Uttar Pradesh, bringing heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, and lightning alerts to a vast stretch of the state. The INDIA Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red and orange alert for over 40 districts, warning residents of potential flooding, waterlogging, crop damage, and lightning risks over the next 24 to 48 hours.

According to the latest IMD update, the following districts are under heavy rain and thunderstorm warnings:

Eastern & Central UP

• Banda, Chitrakoot, Kaushambi, Prayagraj, Fatehpur

• Sonbhadra, Mirzapur, Mahoba, Jhansi, Lalitpur

• Sant Ravidas Nagar (Bhadohi), Chandauli, Ghazipur, Jaunpur

• Pratapgarh, Varanasi, Ballia, Rae Bareli, Kanpur Nagar, Kanpur Dehat

Western & Terai Belt

• Bareilly, Shravasti, Bahraich, Pilibhit, Bijnor

• Saharanpur, Rampur, Shamli, Muzaffarnagar, Moradabad

• Agra, Etawah, Auraiya, Jalaun, Hamirpur

These areas may experience strong wind gusts, intense rain spells, and frequent lightning strikes, particularly during evening and nighttime hours.

IMD Advisory for Citizens

The Meteorological Department has urged residents in affected districts to:

• Avoid going out during heavy rain or thunderstorm activity

• Stay away from water-logged and low-lying areas

• Take shelter in safe structures during lightning

• Secure livestock and move them to higher ground if needed

• Avoid standing under trees or near electric poles

Farmers are advised to delay irrigation and pesticide use, and take measures to protect standing crops from possible flood damage.

Flood Risks and Urban Impact

Urban centers like Prayagraj, Varanasi, Kanpur, and Agra may experience traffic disruptions, power outages, and localized flooding due to the volume of rain predicted. Authorities have been instructed to keep rescue and relief teams on standby, and drainage systems are being cleared as a precaution.
