New Delhi, February 28: According to Amazon CEO Andy Jassy, fears of widespread job losses due to artificial intelligence (AI) are exaggerated. In a recent media interview, Jassy stated that AI will change the way we work rather than completely eliminate jobs.
He acknowledged that roles requiring significant human labor over the past 20 to 30 years may require fewer people in the future. However, this does not mean that jobs will vanish entirely.
Jassy emphasized that, as seen during previous technological revolutions, the era of AI will also create new types of jobs. He remarked, “I believe that the jobs we have employed large numbers of people for in the last 20-30 years will not require as many in the future. But I also think new jobs will emerge. This has been the case with every technological shift.”
Meanwhile, several other reports echo the sentiment that AI will not eliminate jobs but will reshape them. A recent report by brokerage firm Morgan Stanley suggests that the long-term impact of AI may not be as severe as many believe.
The report indicates that while some roles may become automated, most employees will not face permanent unemployment. Instead, they will transition to new types of jobs, some of which do not yet exist.
Morgan Stanley supports its argument by referencing major technological changes over the past 150 years, including electricity, mechanized farming, computers, and the internet. These advancements transformed industries and altered work methods without completely displacing human labor.
The report also cites the introduction of spreadsheets in the 1980s. While this innovation reduced some clerical tasks, it allowed financial professionals to engage in more complex and valuable work. Over time, this shift created new career opportunities in the finance sector rather than eliminating it.
