Mumbai, June 14: Senior Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Kalyan Banerjee has recently softened his stance towards the party’s national general secretary, Abhishek Banerjee. On Saturday, he stated that Abhishek is like a son to him, emphasizing that forgiving a son’s mistakes is a father’s duty. This statement is seen as a significant move to calm the ongoing disputes within the party.
Notably, on June 11, Kalyan Banerjee had made sharp remarks, insisting that party leader Mamata Banerjee must choose between him and Abhishek Banerjee. This comment had intensified discussions about rifts within the party.
The controversy began when Abhishek Banerjee changed his legal representative in a forgery case. Previously, Kalyan Banerjee had served as his lawyer. Following the change, Kalyan expressed his displeasure, claiming that Abhishek does not respect senior leaders and that his arrogance is harming the party.
However, on Friday, Abhishek Banerjee responded calmly, acknowledging Kalyan’s seniority and experience. He stated that Kalyan has known him since childhood, and therefore, he would refrain from commenting against him.
Political analysts view Kalyan Banerjee’s recent remarks as an attempt to reduce the escalating tension between the two leaders. This could also provide relief to the party leadership, as the recent statements from both leaders have publicly exposed internal disagreements within the TMC.
