Jaipur, July 2: Former Chief Minister Ashok Gahlot has accused the Rajasthan government of a complete breakdown in its payment system. In a letter addressed to Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma, Gahlot highlighted the serious financial situation in the state, raising concerns over unpaid dues to government employees, pensioners, hospitals, pharmaceutical vendors, families of accident victims, and small contractors.
Gahlot stated that the ongoing payment crisis is a matter of grave concern. He emphasized that this issue is not limited to a single department or scheme; rather, it affects a wide array of stakeholders, including employees, pensioners, and small contractors, all struggling to receive their rightful payments. He claimed that the state has never witnessed such financial mismanagement in its history.
The former Chief Minister urged Chief Minister Sharma to intervene promptly. He called for an immediate review of pending payments to provide relief to affected groups, stressing the need for the government to maintain public trust among citizens and service providers.
Gahlot also pointed out that payments amounting to millions of rupees to private hospitals, diagnostic centers, and pharmaceutical vendors under the RGHS scheme have been pending for months. The situation has escalated to the point where the State Human Rights Commission has taken notice. Many hospitals are warning of limited services or even terminating Memorandums of Understanding (MOUs).
He noted that the cashless treatment scheme requires employees and pensioners to pay out of pocket before reimbursement, which contradicts its intended purpose. Gahlot suggested that the state government should provide written guarantees to hospitals to ensure timely reimbursements, preventing complications for patients seeking treatment.
Additionally, Gahlot accused the government of delaying payments related to the Chiranjeevi and Ayushman accident insurance schemes. He mentioned that families of accident victims are entitled to a compensation of five lakh rupees, yet many have not received payments despite their claims being approved. He described this as a lack of sensitivity towards affected families.
Concerns were also raised regarding payments to retired employees. Gahlot pointed out that amounts related to GPF, group insurance, gratuity, and earned leave are the rightful entitlements of employees, yet many are left waiting for months after retirement. He highlighted the impact of delayed social security pensions on the elderly, widows, and disabled pensioners.
The letter also referenced delays in the payment of bills that have already been approved by the treasury. Gahlot stated that this directly affects infrastructure projects related to roads, drinking water, and other essential services. He expressed concern that small contractors are resorting to advertising in newspapers to draw the government’s attention to their legitimate payments, which is a troubling situation.
Gahlot concluded that this payment crisis is not merely an administrative oversight but a matter that affects the livelihoods and dignity of millions of families. He urged the state government to maintain the trust of its employees, pensioners, and service providers, which is currently wavering due to the prevailing circumstances.
He called on the Chief Minister to recognize the seriousness of the issue and to take immediate action to resolve the pending payments, suggesting that timely measures could alleviate unnecessary crises for countless families across the state.
