Jaipur, July 1: The Rajasthan government has made significant progress in resolving the nearly 20-year-old Panchna Dam water dispute. Water Resources Minister Suresh Rawat announced that, following the initiative of Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma and continuous efforts from ministers, an agreement has been reached in a cordial atmosphere between both parties. The government has accepted the main demands of both sides, paving the way for a resolution.
Minister Rawat stated that the water dispute had long been a concern between villages in Karauli and Sawai Madhopur regarding water distribution. While residents in the dam area were worried about their water needs, farmers in the command area had been demanding water release for irrigation.
Solution Emerges from Chief Minister’s Initiative
Minister Rawat emphasized that the government took steps to resolve the dispute through dialogue, as initiated by Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma. Ministers engaged with farmer representatives from both sides to listen to their demands and concerns, leading to a consensus on the way forward.
He assured both parties that the water release process would be conducted in a balanced and organized manner to ensure that no region’s interests are adversely affected.
Date for Water Release to be Set in 7 Days
According to Minister Rawat, the date for releasing water from the Panchna Dam will be determined within the next seven days. Relevant departments and officials have been instructed to initiate the necessary procedures.
The government also clarified that alongside releasing water into the canals, efforts will be made to strengthen the irrigation system. This will help provide regular and effective irrigation facilities to farmers in the command area.
