NSUI Leaders Climb Water Tank in Jaipur Demanding Student Union Elections

Jaipur, July 30: The demand for the revival of student union elections in Rajasthan has intensified once again. In response to the alleged police action against protesting students at Jantar Mantar in Delhi, the Congress-affiliated student organization NSUI staged a protest in Jaipur on Thursday.

During the protest, three NSUI student leaders from Rajasthan University climbed a water tank in the Tonk Phatak area. They held placards and shouted slogans against the central government, demanding the resignation of Union Home Minister Amit Shah and an apology to the protesting students.

The leaders who climbed the tank included NSUI in-charge Vijaypal Kudi, student leader Viona Jat, and student leader Koshin Khan. They stated that force was used against students who were peacefully protesting in Delhi. They described this as an attack on democratic rights and the voice of students.

Various student organizations have also protested at Jantar Mantar against the police action and detentions during recent student protests in Delhi. The opposition has called for accountability regarding this action and has demanded the resignation of the Union Home Minister.

The NSUI leaders urged the Rajasthan government to reinstate student union elections in universities and colleges across the state. They argued that the absence of elections prevents students from raising their issues through elected representation at institutional levels.

Protesters emphasized that student unions are a crucial link for dialogue between students and university administration. Prolonged suspension of elections undermines student politics and democratic participation.

The student leaders who climbed the tank accused the central and state governments of attempting to suppress student demands rather than addressing them. They asserted that peaceful protest is a democratic right and that the alleged use of force against students will not be tolerated.

The protesters warned that if student union elections are not reinstated and accountability for the Delhi incident is not established, they will escalate their movement further.
