Internal Strife Erupts in Congress During Jaipur Event

Jaipur, July 31: Internal tensions within the Congress party came to light during an event in Jaipur, where 309 workers from the Bagad region arrived, led by former ministers Mahendrajeet Singh Malviya and Dinesh Khodaniya. The workers first visited former Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot‘s residence, where supporters chanted slogans in favor of Gehlot’s leadership.

At the Congress headquarters, state president Govind Singh Dotasra expressed his displeasure regarding the trend of personal branding over party unity. He emphasized that the Congress organization is greater than any individual leader and warned that prioritizing personal branding has previously led to political setbacks for the party.

Dotasra questioned whether new entrants to the party should first visit the party office or a leader’s residence, implying that every individual must choose between the party’s interests and those of a personal leader. He stated that while individuals may pursue personal branding, they must ultimately work for the Congress organization. Dotasra attributed past electoral losses to individualistic politics, which hindered the Congress from forming a government in Rajasthan for the second consecutive term.

He also noted that Malviya’s return to Congress was facilitated by his recommendation, highlighting the changing political landscape where former opponents now stand together on the Congress platform. Malviya had previously left Congress for the BJP in 2024 but returned after separating from the BJP. His return is seen as part of Congress’s organizational strategy in the Bagad region.

Malviya clarified that the meeting with Gehlot was pre-planned before their arrival in Jaipur, asserting that he does not wish to take sides in the ongoing disputes between Gehlot and Dotasra.

The large turnout of workers from Bagad is viewed as a show of strength for Congress ahead of the upcoming panchayat and urban body elections. The region remains a competitive political arena among Congress, BJP, and the Bharat Adivasi Party. However, the chanting at Gehlot’s residence and Dotasra’s public discontent transformed the event into a debate about organizational discipline and leadership priorities within the party.
