Poor Road Conditions Disrupt Access to Udaipurs Monsoon Palace

Udaipur, August 5: The deteriorating road leading to the Monsoon Palace, located in the Sajjangarh Wildlife Sanctuary, has become a significant concern for tourists. Multiple sections of the road are damaged, causing accidents for two-wheeler riders and damaging vehicles. Falling rocks and debris from the hillside have narrowed the road, leading to traffic jams, especially during evenings and weekends. Shankar Chandela, the Congress block president and former councilor, criticized the forest department for neglecting road repairs despite generating substantial revenue. Recently, several individuals, including a tourist from Gujarat, have been involved in accidents due to these hazardous conditions. Regional Forest Officer Sitaram Meena stated that a new contractor has been appointed after the previous one was disbarred, and repair work will commence soon. Notably, over 71,000 tourists visited the area in December 2024, generating approximately ₹1.49 crore in revenue for the forest department.
