Congress Protests in Tonk Against Election Commissions Alleged Irregularities

Tonk, September 29: The District Congress Committee staged a protest in Tonk on Tuesday against alleged discrepancies in the voter list and the functioning of the Election Commission. Party workers gathered at Gandhi Park, demanding the resignation and arrest of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. They later held a symbolic funeral procession to the election office at Ghantaghar Chowk, where they burned an effigy.

During the protest, former district president Hariprasad Bairwa accused the BJP of influencing democratic institutions through power. He claimed there was large-scale manipulation in the voter lists, although these allegations have not been independently verified.

Congress state vice president Ramvilas Chaudhary questioned the Special Intensive Review (SIR) process, alleging irregularities and accusing the BJP of defending the Chief Election Commissioner. He urged party workers to remain active on issues concerning voter rights.

This protest marked the first major demonstration by the Congress party since forming its board in the municipal council. Reports indicated that fewer than a dozen of the 32 Congress councilors attended, raising discussions about their low turnout at the local level.

The event featured prominent figures including Chairman Mayank Goyal, former MLA Kamal Bairwa, former district president Hariprasad Bairwa, state vice president Ramvilas Chaudhary, Devkaran Gurjar, Seva Dal president Abdul Khalik, Women’s Congress president Mausami Meena, Youth Congress district president Hansraj Gunjan, and other officials and workers.
