Congress Leaders Discuss Panchayat Elections in Tonk

Tonk, October 4: The Block Congress Committee of Aligarh-Uniyara held an organizational meeting to strategize for the upcoming Panchayati Raj elections. MP Harish Chandra Meena addressed party workers, local leaders, and officials during the meeting.

Meena, who has previously served as the Director General of Police in Rajasthan, emphasized the importance of selecting honest and capable candidates at the village level. He noted that elections at this level do not occur under party symbols, urging rural voters to prioritize candidates who can unite all sections of the community. However, elections for the Panchayat Samiti and District Council will be contested under political party symbols.

The schedule for the Panchayat elections is as follows:
– District Council and Panchayat Samiti members: October 23, October 29, November 4, November 14 (four phases)
– Panch and Sarpanch elections: October 25, October 31, November 6, November 16
– Nominations: Public notice for District Council on October 8, nominations accepted until October 13
– Results: Counting for District Council and Panchayat Samiti on November 20; counting for Panch and Sarpanch on the same day at the village headquarters.

In his address, Meena stated that any party worker who believes in the party’s policies can apply for a ticket, but only one candidate will ultimately be selected. He urged those who do not receive a ticket not to rebel or contest against the official party candidate but to support them instead.

The ticket application process was also discussed during the meeting. Meena explained that block presidents would compile applications in the prescribed format and forward them to the district president, who would then send them to the state leadership with their recommendations. He emphasized that local workers’ opinions would be valued in the ticket selection process.

In parallel, the State Congress Committee has issued QR codes for online applications, specifically for the positions of District Council and Panchayat Samiti members, as the Panch and Sarpanch elections are not contested under party symbols. The deadline for District Council nominations is October 13, indicating that time is limited for candidates to establish their claims.

Meena criticized the BJP and the state government’s policies, claiming there is public discontent regarding their governance. He encouraged party workers to engage with voters to communicate Congress’s policies and local development issues. He also advised them to maintain organizational unity and avoid internal conflicts during the election campaign.

He urged that during the selection of candidates for the village Panchayat elections, voters should ensure that representatives prioritize the development of all community segments. Meena highlighted the importance of social harmony and participation from all groups in the Aligarh-Uniyara region, calling on workers to enhance public outreach and activate the organization at the Panchayat level.

Local Congress officials, including Municipal Chairperson Naresh Gurjar, former Sarpanch Munim Meena, former Deputy Chief Jagdish Bairwa, and Nawal Sharma, were present at the meeting. Meanwhile, the BJP also held a meeting on the same day in Tonk to prepare for the Panchayat elections, where Arun Chaturvedi called for strengthening the organization at the booth level.
