Allegations of Corruption in Rajasthan: Gahlot Criticizes IAS Officers Villa Purchase

Jaipur, October 31: Former Chief Minister Ashok Gahlot has raised serious concerns regarding the purchase of a villa by IAS officer Shikhar Agarwal, questioning the fairness of the scheme that allowed journalists to buy flats for 7.5 million while Agarwal acquired a villa for just 1.5 million. Gahlot asked, “Was this scheme created solely for Shikhar Agarwal? Such schemes should be available for everyone.”

State Congress President Govind Singh Dotasra supported Gahlot, asserting that the investigation will prove Agarwal’s innocence, after which the government will promote its integrity.

Both leaders spoke to the media at the state Congress headquarters, where a multi-faith prayer meeting was held to commemorate the death anniversary of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi and the birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. Gahlot, Dotasra, former minister Mahesh Joshi, and Gahlot’s son Vaibhav Gahlot paid floral tributes to the portraits of both leaders.

Gahlot further stated that the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) operates under the Chief Minister’s authority, leading to doubts about the investigation’s progress. He mentioned that the Chief Minister himself has faced allegations regarding a decision favoring a company, and Agarwal has been one of his closest officials. Gahlot urged the Chief Minister or witnesses to clarify the details of a dispute that occurred in his presence.

He accused a female ADG in the ACB of coercing her subordinates to file cases, claiming she has become a “super DG,” while the ACB’s DG operates under pressure. Gahlot emphasized that while action against corruption is necessary, harassing individuals unjustly is unacceptable.

Dotasra confidently stated, “Mark my words, Shikhar Agarwal will be proven innocent in this investigation.” He criticized the Chief Minister for only initiating a preliminary inquiry and called for a more transparent approach. Dotasra questioned how a senior IAS officer could receive a fair investigation from an officer at the additional police superintendent level.

Responding to BJP state president Madan Rathore‘s remarks, Dotasra insisted, “Your government is in power; we will ask questions. Are these allegations made by God?” He claimed that ordinary tasks in the state are not being conducted without transactions. Dotasra revealed that over 100,000 workers from Rajasthan are set to attend the India alliance rally in Delhi on November 1, with their names and vehicle details documented.

Reflecting on Indira Gandhi’s legacy, Gahlot remarked on her strength, recalling that she sacrificed her life to prevent the formation of Khalistan. He criticized the current government for neglecting the ongoing crisis in Manipur and highlighted Sardar Patel’s significant role in unifying the states post-independence.

Gahlot also attacked the RSS and BJP, stating that the BJP did not exist at the time of independence and that the Janata Party absorbed the ideology of the Janata Sangh. He accused RSS members of acting as informants for the British and lamented that questioning the government today brands one as a traitor. Gahlot described the upcoming rally in Delhi as a fight to save democracy.

In recent developments, the state government removed Shikhar Agarwal from all positions, including Additional Chief Secretary of the Industry Department, late on October 28. The government approved an investigation by the ACB under Section 17-A of the Prevention of Corruption Act, which has now initiated a preliminary inquiry. Agarwal is accused of favoring Goyal Fashions Private Limited, which operates the “Ananta” resort, by allowing his family to purchase villas at below-market prices. Reports indicate that in two and a half years, the family acquired 40 villas in Alwar and Udaipur for a total of 61.65 million rupees, averaging about 15.4 million rupees per unit, leasing them back to the same company. On Saturday, Agarwal’s wife, IPS Prashakha Mathur, was also removed from her position as ADG and placed on A.P.O.
