Amit Shah Meets Families of Anti-Drug Activists in Sangrur, Promises Action

New Delhi, October 20: Union Home Minister Amit Shah met with three families in Sangrur, Punjab, whose members raised their voices against drug abuse and subsequently lost their lives. According to Dr. Alka Singh Gurjar, BJP’s co-in-charge for Punjab and a Rajya Sabha member, the Home Minister listened to the families and assured them of appropriate action.

Families Engaged in the Meeting

The Home Minister first met the family of Gulzar Singh in the village of Tura Banjara. Family members stated that Gulzar had questioned Punjab Minister Harpal Cheema about drugs being sold in the village, after which he faced harassment. Tragically, he later took his own life.

Following this, the Home Minister met with the families of Mohanjeet Singh Sheron from Sheron village and Samandeep Singh ‘Sunny’ from Kanoji village. Both families claimed that their loved ones also opposed drug abuse and faced persecution, leading to their suicides.

Dr. Alka Gurjar noted that the Home Minister assured the families of his unwavering support in every circumstance. Punjab BJP leaders were also present during the meeting. There has been no response from Harpal Cheema or the Punjab government regarding these allegations.

Recent Meetings on Drug Issues

The issue of drug abuse is a significant agenda for both major political parties in Punjab. Just four days prior, on October 16, Congress leader Sachin Pilot visited Mansa to meet the family of anti-drug activist Parvinder Singh Jhota, who was shot dead on October 13 at a local medical store. The main suspect in this case was arrested in Salasar, Rajasthan.

Both parties have leaders connected to Rajasthan. Alka Singh Gurjar is a Rajya Sabha member from Rajasthan and serves as the BJP’s co-in-charge for Punjab, while Sachin Pilot is also a prominent leader from Rajasthan.
