Jaipur, October 21: Former Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot has sharply criticized the Rajasthan government regarding the case of NSUI National Secretary Ritu Barala, who has not had an FIR registered. Gehlot stated that the Jaipur police only need to file a ‘zero FIR’ and forward the case to the Delhi police, who would handle the investigation. Despite this, he lamented that a daughter of Rajasthan is being humiliated in police stations while seeking justice.
Gehlot questioned whether the BJP government in Rajasthan has become completely incompetent. He urged Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma to stop using the police as a political tool and to immediately register the zero FIR.
“Will There Be Two Laws in the Country?”
Gehlot further asked if daughters in BJP-ruled states would be denied justice simply because they are associated with the Congress or its student wing, NSUI. He raised concerns about the existence of two laws in the country—one for the ruling party and another for the opposition.
He emphasized, “Chief Minister, stop using the police as a political pawn. Register a zero FIR in Ritu Barala’s case to uphold the rule of law.”
Citing Section 173(1) of the BNSS
Gehlot referenced Section 173(1) of the new Indian National Security Code (BNSS), stating that the police must register a zero FIR regardless of where the crime occurred. He accused the Rajasthan police and government of openly violating this provision.
He questioned, “Has the BJP government in Rajasthan become completely incompetent? The Jaipur police need only register a ‘zero FIR’ and transfer the case to Delhi police. Why is a daughter of Rajasthan being humiliated in police stations while seeking justice?”
Incident on October 13, Protest Since October 19
Ritu Barala has alleged that on October 13, during an NSUI protest in Delhi, police officers assaulted her. On October 19, she filed a complaint at the Moti Dungri police station in Jaipur, demanding an FIR against the Delhi police officers involved. Following the failure to register the FIR, Congress has been protesting at the Jaipur Police Commissionerate, with Gehlot joining the demonstration early Monday morning.
This ongoing situation continues to draw attention, highlighting the need for accountability and justice in such cases.
