Jaipur, October 17: Former Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot has sharply criticized the Rajasthan government for its failure to disburse pending payments to employees and pensioners. On Friday, he took to social media to highlight that state employees and retirees have been waiting for their pension benefits, gratuity, and provident fund payments for the past ten months. Gehlot urged the government to immediately release a white paper to disclose the state’s financial situation and expedite the overdue payments.
Gehlot emphasized that these funds represent the hard-earned money of employees, essential for family weddings and festive occasions. He noted that the employees’ federation has been forced to stage protests at all district headquarters, and they have now declared plans to observe a ‘black Diwali‘ in protest.
He stated, “The government should be ashamed that employees and elderly pensioners have to take to the streets for their rightful payments during Diwali.” Gehlot criticized the government for spending public funds on new events and publicity while neglecting its own employees, raising concerns about whether the Rajasthan BJP government is on the brink of bankruptcy.
Key points raised by Gehlot include:
– Ten months of pending pension benefits, gratuity, and provident fund payments.
– The employees’ federation has been compelled to protest across all district headquarters.
– The announcement of observing a ‘black Diwali’ in protest.
– A demand for the government to release a white paper detailing the financial status.
– Urgent calls for the settlement of outstanding payments to employees.
The demand for a white paper on the state’s financial situation has been raised previously by the Congress party. In May, opposition leader Tikaram Julie also called for the government to issue a white paper in light of rising debt. Reports indicated that the state’s public debt had increased by ₹1.19 lakh crore over two years.
As of now, there has been no official response from the government regarding the pending payments to employees or the protests organized by the federation.
