Ashok Gehlot Defends Opposition Rights Amid BJP Allegations

Jaipur, October 11: Former Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot has responded to BJP National President Nitin Naveen’s accusations against Rahul Gandhi, claiming he is attempting to destabilize the country under foreign influence. Gehlot took to social media platform X on Saturday, asserting that questioning and protesting are fundamental rights of the opposition in a democracy, not crimes.

Gehlot criticized Naveen, suggesting that the BJP leader is now acting as a lawyer for the Election Commission due to the mounting questions surrounding his party. He accused the BJP and RSS of lacking faith in democracy, stating that labeling opposition movements as a “conspiracy to destabilize the country” reflects this mindset.

Gehlot also referenced past BJP-led movements, questioning what foreign power was behind them at that time. He highlighted Rahul Gandhi’s Bharat Jodo Yatra, which aimed to unite the country, and criticized the targeting of Gandhi for his efforts.

He noted that both Rahul Gandhi in the Lok Sabha and Mallikarjun Kharge in the Rajya Sabha were denied the opportunity to speak, and opposition MPs were obstructed from approaching the Election Commission and Jantar Mantar. According to Gehlot, the ruling party is tarnishing democratic dissent and escalating tensions in the country.

Gehlot further pointed out that Delhi has been turned into a fortress, with 75 trains canceled, 57 metro station gates closed, and internet services suspended in large areas of New Delhi. He remarked that the Prime Minister and Home Minister have yet to respond to these issues.

He criticized the repeated labeling of the opposition as “urban Naxals” and being influenced by foreign powers, arguing that such tactics do not address the public’s concerns. Gehlot accused the central government and BJP of succumbing to foreign pressure, referencing statements from former U.S. President Donald Trump, tariffs imposed on India, and visa policies.

Regarding the closure of 57 metro stations, Gehlot’s claims align with a letter from the Delhi Police, which listed these stations as being closed from 9 PM on October 9. On the same matter, the Supreme Court instructed the central government on October 9 to ensure that metro and train services are not completely halted and should be operated in a controlled manner. The government has indicated it will reconsider the restrictions.

Nitin Naveen has been serving as the BJP National President since January 20, 2026, succeeding Jagat Prakash Nadda. He is the youngest national president from Bihar and the first BJP leader from the state to hold this position. Naveen has previously accused the opposition alliance led by Rahul Gandhi of attempting to create instability in the country under foreign influence.
