Congress Faces Internal Revolt After Municipal Election Losses in Bharatpur

Bharatpur, September 30: The internal strife within the Congress party has come to light following the municipal election results. Former minister and Digger-Kumher MLA Vishvendra Singh has held the district leadership accountable for the party’s poor performance in Bharatpur and Digger, directly targeting state Congress president Govind Singh Dotasra.

In a social media post titled “Bharatpur-Digger Congress’s Downfall — Who’s Responsible?” Singh accused the district heads of distributing tickets to favorites while sidelining genuine party workers.

‘Tickets Given to Favorites, Genuine Workers Ignored’

Singh stated that there is only one reason for Congress’s defeat in the municipal elections. He emphasized, “Both district heads distributed tickets to their favorites and ignored real workers. The public has taught them a lesson.”

He further noted that in previous elections, the public was “buried in the grave,” but this time they are ready to “bury both district heads and state president Govind Singh Dotasra in the same grave.”

Direct Attack on Dotasra

In the latter part of his post, Singh questioned the silence of the state leadership. He pointed out that Bharatpur is the home district of the Chief Minister, stating, “This is the CM’s home district; Congress should have been strong here, but these individuals have sunk the party, and the state president remains mute. As long as they hold their positions, Congress’s rise is impossible. State leadership, wake up!”

Singh tagged national leaders of Congress — Rahul Gandhi, Mallikarjun Kharge, and K.C. Venugopal — along with Ashok Gehlot, Sachin Pilot, and Dotasra, indicating an attempt to escalate the matter beyond district and state levels to the national leadership.

What Do the Numbers Say?

In the 13 urban bodies across Bharatpur and Digger, Congress secured only 19 seats out of a total of 415 wards. Independents won 262 wards, while the BJP claimed 131. The BSP and RLP managed to win three wards each.

In the Bharatpur Municipal Corporation alone, out of 65 wards, independents won 36, the BJP took 20, and Congress managed just 7. In the six bodies of Digger district, Congress won only 4 wards out of 180.

Congress in Third Place in CM’s Home District

Bharatpur is the home district of Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma. In this crucial political area, Congress lagged not only behind the BJP but also independent candidates. Singh argues that the party should have been in a strong position in such an important political region, but organizational decisions have caused significant damage.

Previous Conflicts with District Leadership

This is not the first time Singh has raised concerns about the Congress organization in Bharatpur-Digger. In August, he criticized Digger district president Rajiv Kumher’s approach after his name was omitted from the list of in-charges for the municipal elections, calling it a “petty mentality.”

He stated that after serving as a district chief, three-time MP, three-time MLA, and two-time cabinet minister, such disrespect cannot be tolerated. Thus, his recent statements are not a sudden outburst but rather a continuation of ongoing discontent.

What’s Next?

This statement comes at a time when Congress is preparing for the upcoming Panchayati Raj elections, and the issue of ticket distribution is likely to resurface.

As of now, there has been no public response from the state Congress leadership or the two district heads regarding Singh’s recent allegations.
