Congress Leaders Stage Surprise March to PM Residence on Kharges Birthday

New Delhi, July 22: On the occasion of Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge’s birthday, senior party leaders gathered at his official residence. After their meeting, they unexpectedly initiated a march towards the Prime Minister’s residence. This demonstration caught security agencies off guard as there was no prior public announcement.

In the morning, various leaders, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Defense Minister Rajnath Singh, extended birthday wishes to Kharge via social media. Shortly after, Kharge declared that he would not celebrate his birthday in protest against the alleged police action against student demonstrators.

The opposition has been targeting the central government following police actions during a march by students and youth the previous day in Delhi. Congress leaders accused the police of using excessive force against peaceful protesters.

During the afternoon, Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, and several other senior Congress leaders visited Kharge to congratulate him. While the gathering appeared to be a typical birthday meeting, discussions regarding future protest strategies also took place.

After the meeting, instead of departing in their vehicles, the leaders began walking towards the Prime Minister’s residence. They labeled this as a “Chalo PM House” march in support of the student protesters and against police actions.

Due to the short distance between Kharge’s residence and the Prime Minister’s house, the Congress leaders quickly reached near Lok Kalyan Marg. Upon learning of the sudden march, Delhi police and security forces set up barricades to prevent the demonstrators from advancing.

Subsequently, several opposition leaders, including Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi, Mallikarjun Kharge, and Akhilesh Yadav, were detained. Congress alleged that force was used against the leaders during their detention, while police cited security concerns and the restricted area as reasons for their actions.

Following the protest, Priyanka Gandhi stated that Congress leaders reached a location where the government and security agencies did not expect them to arrive. Congress described this march as a step in support of students’ rights and democratic protests.
