Congress Likely to Walk Out During SIR Discussion, Says Union Minister Vaishnav

Jaipur, November 5: Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnav has stated that if a discussion on the SIR takes place in Parliament, Congress is expected to walk out mid-session. He claimed that the party lacks both truth and substantial issues. Vaishnav emphasized that if Congress makes a request, the government will not hesitate to convene a special session. During a press conference at the BJP state office, he posed six questions to Congress regarding SIR, EVMs, and the voter list.
Vaishnav criticized Congress for continuously attacking constitutional institutions that have been strengthened through years of effort, laws, and the collective will of 1.4 billion citizens. He warned that such actions threaten the sanctity of democracy and the Constitution. Consequently, the BJP and NDA have decided to bring this issue to the public’s attention. As part of this campaign, a rally and foot march were held in Jaipur at Ramleela Maidan on Thursday.
‘SIR Has Occurred Multiple Times Since 1947, EVMs Were Introduced by Congress’
Vaishnav asserted that a correct voter list is the fundamental requirement for democracy, forming the basis for all elections. He noted that SIR is a constitutionally mandated process that has occurred several times since 1947, questioning the rationale behind raising doubts about it now. He also pointed out that EVMs were introduced by Congress itself. Before EVMs, votes were often manipulated, leading to ballot boxes being stuffed and booths being looted. He stated that such incidents frequently occurred during Congress and its allies’ rule, particularly under the Communists, and that EVMs have helped prevent these issues.
‘If They Couldn’t Win with Ballots, Will They Withdraw Their Demand?’
The Rail Minister remarked that Congress demands elections via ballot papers. However, even after MLC elections were conducted using ballots, Congress failed to secure any seats. He questioned whether the party would now retract its demand. Vaishnav also inquired if Congress wanted non-citizens to have voting rights, if deceased individuals should remain on the voter list, and if one person’s name should be registered in multiple places.
He pointed out that while Congress leaders often carry the Constitution, it remains unclear if they have actually read it. The Constitution states that Parliament should function according to its provisions, respecting the institutions created under it and strengthening established processes. He challenged whether Congress leaders genuinely believe in the Constitution.
‘If They Make a Demand, We Will Call a Special Session’
Vaishnav emphasized that Parliament is the country’s largest assembly and that the government has provided a platform for discussion on all matters. He urged Congress to come to Parliament if they wish to discuss SIR. He noted that whenever Congress has requested discussions on various topics, the government has facilitated them, yet Congress leaders have consistently walked out. He predicted that the same would happen regarding SIR.
He referenced the Emergency of 1975, the tearing of ordinances approved by the Cabinet at the Press Club, and the establishment of the National Advisory Council above the Cabinet, asserting that Congress has never trusted the Constitution, only relying on vote bank politics. He concluded by stating that the era of vote bank politics is over, and the public desires a focus on development. Present at the press conference were BJP state president Madan Rathore, state vice president Mukesh Dadhich, general secretary Shrawan Singh Bagri, chief spokesperson Ramlal Sharma, and media in-charge Pramod Vashisht.
