Gahlot Questions CM Bhajanlals Claims About His Past Business

Jaipur, November 6: Former Chief Minister Ashok Gahlot recently challenged current Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma regarding comments made about Gahlot’s past. During a media interaction, Gahlot questioned how Bhajanlal, who was only five years old when Gahlot opened a fertilizer shop 56 years ago, could possibly know about it. Gahlot expressed his disappointment over Bhajanlal’s unfounded statements, suggesting that the Chief Minister should apologize not to him, but to the people of Rajasthan.
Gahlot recounted that after completing his studies, he opened a fertilizer shop in a small town around 1970. However, he closed it within six to seven months to return home and run for the student union president at Jodhpur University. He remarked, “At the age of two or three, or even five, how could you know what I did there? The allegations regarding fake seeds and fertilizers are baffling.”
On November 3, during a rally in Jodhpur, Bhajanlal claimed, “I am the son of a farmer, while you are the son of a magician. Your shop exploited farmers.” He also accused Gahlot of selling fake fertilizers and seeds. Gahlot had previously demanded that Bhajanlal provide evidence for his claims or apologize within 24 hours. On November 5, Bhajanlal continued to question Gahlot’s tenure during a gathering at Ramleela Maidan in Jaipur.
Gahlot responded to the BJP’s campaign for democracy by stating that it is the Congress’s role to raise allegations while in opposition. “If it’s wrong, refute it; if it’s right, make improvements for the public good,” he said. He criticized Bhajanlal’s response to feedback from the Congress regarding the purchase of villas by IAS officer Shikhar Agarwal, highlighting a significant price disparity between properties meant for journalists and Agarwal.
Gahlot emphasized that he did not expect such behavior from Bhajanlal, who is serving as an MLA and Chief Minister for the first time. He urged Bhajanlal to respect democracy and treat the opposition fairly. “Ask the public how your comments have affected their perception. You should apologize to them, not to me.”
Reflecting on his extensive political experience, Gahlot noted, “Having served as Chief Minister three times, a central minister, and a five-time MP, I expected a certain level of respect in political discourse.” He expressed concern over the language used by Bhajanlal, which he believed was inappropriate for someone in his position.
Tikarama Julie, the Leader of the Opposition, previously pointed out that while Gahlot had been a prominent politician for years, Bhajanlal was only beginning his political career.
