Over 100 Farming Families in Bilia Village Benefit from Year-Round Water Supply near Chanderiya Lead Zinc Smelter
Chittorgarh, Rajasthan May 9, 2025 Hindustan Zinc, the world’s largest integrated zinc producer, has taken a significant step toward rural and agricultural development under its community welfare program. Through the installation of a unique lift irrigation system in Bilia village, located near its Chanderiya Lead Zinc Smelter, the company has rejuvenated 125 acres of previously under-irrigated farmland, improving the livelihoods of over 100 farming families.

Year-Round Irrigation Transforms Agricultural Productivity
The lift irrigation project facilitates water supply from low-lying water sources to higher-altitude agricultural fields, ensuring uninterrupted irrigation throughout the year. Prior to this initiative, water scarcity during summer months made farming unsustainable on large swathes of land.
Now, with reliable water access, farmers are cultivating wheat, sorghum, and high-value cash crops, significantly boosting crop yields, reducing losses, and enhancing household incomes. Local farmers have lauded the project, stating that it has revolutionized their farming practices and secured their agricultural future.
A farmer from Bilia shared, “This lift irrigation system has truly transformed our fields. Earlier, getting water to the higher plots was nearly impossible. Thanks to Hindustan Zinc’s scientific and expert-led approach, we now have water reaching every corner of our land.”
A Model Initiative under Project Samadhan
The project is part of Hindustan Zinc’s flagship sustainable agriculture program, Samadhan, which promotes climate-resilient farming, soil and water conservation, livestock development, and market linkage support. Currently operating across six districts in Rajasthan—Udaipur, Salumber, Rajsamand, Chittorgarh, Bhilwara, and Ajmer—Samadhan positively impacts nearly 35,000 farming families.
The initiative equips farmers with personalized support and training, enabling a transition from subsistence to surplus agriculture.
Broader CSR Impact across Rajasthan
Beyond agriculture, Hindustan Zinc contributes to quality education, sustainable livelihoods for women and farmers, access to healthcare, promotion of art and culture, water conservation, sanitation, and grassroots sports. The company’s holistic community development programs have reached over 2,400 villages, benefiting more than 2.3 million people.
Ranked among India’s top 10 CSR companies, Hindustan Zinc’s initiatives underscore its commitment to building a resilient and inclusive Rajasthan—driven by innovation, sustainability, and social responsibility.
