Bengaluru, March 3: The Karnataka BJP targeted Rahul Gandhi, the leader of the opposition in the Lok Sabha, on Tuesday for his criticism of India’s stance on the US-Israel-Iran conflict.
Gandhi had stated that Prime Minister Narendra Modi should clearly indicate whether he supports the assassination of a country’s leader and condemn the attacks on Iran and other nations in West Asia. He also mentioned that India’s current silence is making it vulnerable on the global stage.
R. Ashok, the leader of the opposition in the Karnataka Assembly, argued that before lecturing on morality and global order, Gandhi should clarify whether he supports the alleged politically threatening slogans raised by Congress workers.
Ashok accused Gandhi of remaining silent on matters related to “political threats,” asserting that silence implies complicity. He emphasized that while it may be easy to preach restraint to world leaders, maintaining discipline within one’s own party is far more challenging.
He questioned Gandhi’s belief in the notion that “violence begets violence,” asking if he would condemn actions he has labeled as politically threatening.
Ashok further stated that India’s foreign policy is based on national interests, strategic depth, and well-considered diplomacy, rather than on social media comments or statements made for headlines.
He urged governments to act responsibly in sensitive situations and avoid public statements that could jeopardize national interests or the safety of Indians abroad.
Highlighting the significant presence of the Indian diaspora in West Asia, Ashok stressed the need for maturity and responsibility over political rhetoric to ensure their safety.
He concluded by stating that if Gandhi desires India to present a clear stance, he must first deliver a clear message within his party’s ranks.
