Jaipur, October 8: Naresh Meena, leading a march to Jaipur concerning the availability of DAP and urea fertilizers, was halted by police near Shivdaspura Toll on Wednesday evening. As a large number of supporters gathered, authorities set up barricades, causing a traffic jam stretching approximately five kilometers on Tonk Road.
After about two and a half hours of discussions with senior officials from the agriculture department and administration, Meena decided to return with his supporters around 8:30 PM. However, he clarified that while the march had ended, his hunger strike would continue.
Timeline of Events on Wednesday Night:
– 6 PM: Convoy stopped near Shivdaspura Toll
– Impact: Traffic jam on Tonk Road, approximately five kilometers long
– Dialogue: Two and a half hours of discussions with senior officials
– 8:30 PM: March concluded, return with supporters
– Next Steps: Hunger strike will continue from his village
– Assurance: Results expected in 3 to 4 days, around October 10-11
During his return, Meena stated that he had discussions with senior IAS officials and that the matter had reached the Chief Minister‘s Office level. He mentioned that officials assured him of results regarding farmers’ issues within the next 3 to 4 days.
He emphasized that he would not end his hunger strike until the farmers’ demands were met. “My hunger strike is still ongoing. It will continue until the farmers’ issues are resolved,” Meena declared.
Meena noted that the large influx of people and vehicles at Shivdaspura had caused significant traffic congestion. Considering the inconvenience to the public, he decided to turn back. He stated that the hunger strike would now continue from his village. “As long as I have life, I will continue to fight for the people,” he affirmed.
Agriculture Commissioner Naresh Kumar Goyal and ADM East Jaipur Narendra Kumar Verma were present at the site and engaged in discussions with Meena.
Security Measures:
In anticipation of the Jaipur march, stringent security arrangements were made around Shivdaspura Toll. Water cannons, along with STF and RAC personnel, were deployed. Several inspectors and RPS officers were also assigned to manage the situation.
The march began from Baran, with Meena departing from Niwai towards Jaipur on Wednesday morning, gathering supporters along the way. After a rally in Chaksu, the convoy was stopped near Shivdaspura.
Demands for Fertilizer Availability:
Meena’s movement centers on ensuring adequate availability of DAP and urea fertilizers for farmers, as well as securing fertilizers at fixed prices. He has alleged that farmers are facing difficulties in accessing fertilizers and are being pressured to purchase additional items alongside them.
On the other hand, the government claims that there is sufficient stock of fertilizers in the state. The disparity between government assurances and farmers’ complaints has become a central issue of the movement.
The fertilizer shortage issue is also politically charged. On the same day, former Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot criticized the government regarding DAP availability. Meena had previously been in the news concerning the SDM slap incident.
March Concluded, Movement Continues:
Following the events of Wednesday night, Naresh Meena and his supporters will not proceed further towards Jaipur. However, their hunger strike concerning farmers’ demands will persist. The next 3 to 4 days are deemed crucial, as Meena indicated that the administration has promised to address farmers’ issues within this timeframe.
