Political Buzz Intensifies in Congress Over Rajya Sabha Ticket in Rajasthan

Jaipur, May 22: Political activity within the Congress party is heating up regarding the upcoming Rajya Sabha seat vacancy from Rajasthan. Several prominent leaders are actively lobbying for the ticket, aiming to strengthen their claims with the party’s high command. According to party sources, three leaders are currently in the fray: sitting Rajya Sabha MP Neeraj Dangi, Congress leader Dinesh Khodaniya, and national spokesperson Pawan Khera. Meanwhile, senior leader and former Assembly Speaker Dr. C.P. Joshi is considered the strongest candidate without engaging in any lobbying.

Neeraj Dangi Aiming for Re-election
Current Rajya Sabha MP Neeraj Dangi is working to extend his term. He intends to contest the Rajya Sabha elections for a second time. Sources indicate that Dangi has been in constant contact with Congress National President Mallikarjun Kharge. He is regarded as close to former Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot. Dangi has been active in the politics of Mewar and Vagad regions, claiming significant regional influence. Within the Congress, he is recognized as both an organizational and regional leader.

Dinesh Khodaniya Also in the Race, Previously Controversial
Congress leader Dinesh Khodaniya’s name is also circulating in discussions about the Rajya Sabha candidacy. He has previously served as the district president of Dungarpur and claims a strong political foothold in tribal areas. However, his name surfaced in controversies following the arrest of former RPSC member Babulal Katara in a paper leak case, which led to ED raids on his and his relatives’ properties. Despite this, he remains active at the organizational level.

Pawan Khera Building Alliances Through Rahul Gandhi
National spokesperson Pawan Khera is also seen as a contender for the Rajya Sabha ticket. Sources suggest he is leveraging his connection with Rahul Gandhi to bolster his candidacy. Khera identifies himself with the Mewar region, as he was born in Udaipur. However, his education and political activity have primarily been centered in Delhi. He has not been visibly active in Rajasthan politics but is recognized nationally as one of Congress’s key spokespersons.

Dr. C.P. Joshi Considered the Strongest Candidate Without Lobbying
Among the contenders for the vacant Rajya Sabha seat, former Assembly Speaker Dr. C.P. Joshi is viewed as the most serious candidate. Party sources indicate that his name is being seriously considered at the highest levels. Notably, Dr. Joshi is advancing based on his political qualifications and experience, steering clear of any lobbying or pressure tactics. He has held several significant positions, including MLA, MP, Union Minister, and Assembly Speaker, and is regarded as a prominent face of Congress in the Mewar region.

There is also discussion within the party that, given Congress’s weakening position in the Mewar region, sending a local and experienced candidate to the Rajya Sabha could send a positive message to regional workers and supporters. With the announcement of the Rajya Sabha election dates, activities regarding ticket allocation within Congress are expected to intensify.
