Jaipur, April 12: The Rajasthan government has made its position clear regarding the local body elections and OBC reservation. Urban Development and Autonomous Governance Minister, Jhabar Singh Kharra, stated that elections will only be conducted once accurate population data for the Other Backward Classes (OBC) is available. He emphasized that the government’s priority is to hold elections in accordance with constitutional provisions while ensuring reservation.
During his visit to Bhilwara, Kharra also targeted the opposition, suggesting that if they wish to conduct elections without OBC reservation, they should formally submit their demand in writing. He reiterated that the government has made it clear in the assembly that elections will be held only after the reservation process is completed.
Kharra further explained that the delay in local body elections is currently under review by the Rajasthan High Court, and the government will fully comply with the court’s decision. He stated that actions will be taken in respect of the judicial process.
Additionally, he referenced the Supreme Court’s ruling, indicating that political reservation cannot be granted until the state’s backward class commission prepares accurate population data for the OBCs based on a three-tier investigation. He stressed the importance of ensuring that the benefits of reservation reach the deserving and eligible individuals, making accurate data essential.
Kharra concluded by warning that hasty decisions could lead to legal complications in the future, and therefore, the government is committed to completing the entire process in a constitutional and legal manner.
