Sachin Pilot Criticizes BJP Government and Election Commission in Tonk

Tonk, April 13: Congress leader Sachin Pilot launched a strong critique against the central government, the BJP, and the political landscape of various states during a media interaction in Tonk. He questioned the Election Commission’s decision to announce the Kerala Assembly elections prematurely, despite the term lasting until May. He argued that this haste resulted in simultaneous elections across three states, leaving the opposition with insufficient time to prepare. Nevertheless, he expressed confidence that the Congress and UDF would contest the elections robustly and secure a clear majority.

Commenting on the political situation in Assam, Pilot described it as alarming. He accused those in responsible positions of using derogatory language and attempting to polarize politics. He noted that while BJP leaders are allowed to make accusations, they react sharply when questioned. He also pointed out that incidents of police action during the enforcement of the code of conduct have raised concerns about the democratic process.

Pilot further criticized the BJP for failing to take concrete action on the issue of infiltration, despite being in power for the past ten years in Assam and twelve years at the center. He claimed that the party is trying to win elections through fear and polarization, which is detrimental to democracy. Regarding the elections in West Bengal and Tamil Nadu, he stated that Congress would contest all 294 seats in Bengal, presenting a significant opportunity to showcase the party’s strength. He mentioned that Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi, and Mallikarjun Kharge would campaign there.

Addressing the situation in Rajasthan, Pilot emphasized the issues faced by farmers. He condemned Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma’s remark that farmers only work a few days a year. Pilot asserted that farmers toil throughout the year and are the backbone of the nation, urging the government to take concrete steps to honor and assist them. He also called for immediate financial aid for farmers affected by hailstorms and excessive rainfall.

He accused the state government of stagnation in development projects, stating that no construction is taking place in villages and that programs like MGNREGA are also affected. Additionally, he criticized the government for not conducting local body elections, arguing that halting constitutional processes is wrong and that the government fears public backlash. He questioned the lack of coordination between the government and organizations, stating that the administrative machinery has become dominant. He concluded by asserting that anyone who has erred should be punished, but actions must be fair and based on facts.
