Shimla, February 6 The intense cold wave in Himachal Pradesh has worsened after recent snowfall, plunging temperatures to sub-zero levels in several cities. The state capital Shimla is nearing the freezing point, while the tribal regions of Lahaul-Spiti, Kinnaur, Kullu, and Chamba are experiencing extreme cold conditions.

Severe Drop in Temperature Across Himachal

Temperatures have fallen below freezing in key hill stations, severely disrupting normal life. The coldest regions in the state include:

Fresh Snowfall in Several Areas

Over the last 24 hours, light snowfall was reported in several parts of Himachal Pradesh:

Despite clear skies on Thursday, bringing some relief from bone-chilling cold, the Meteorological Department has predicted dry weather for the next 24 hours. However, between February 8-12, another Western Disturbance is expected to cause fresh snowfall in high-altitude regions.

100+ Roads Blocked, Transportation Severely Affected

The heavy snowfall has caused significant disruptions in transportation, with over 100 roads blocked across high-altitude regions, particularly in:

Lahaul-Spiti (most affected)
Kinnaur
Kullu
Chamba

Snow accumulation has made commuting difficult, especially in tribal areas. Additionally, strong winds in Chamba have damaged power lines, leading to electricity outages in multiple locations.

Weather Forecast: Cold Wave to Continue

According to Shimla Meteorological Center Director Kuldeep Srivastava, temperatures are expected to remain low despite clear weather.

Short-term relief is expected on February 7, as the sun is likely to shine.
From February 8, a new Western Disturbance will bring fresh snowfall in higher altitudes.
Plains will see dense fog in the early morning and late night, reducing visibility and making driving hazardous.
