D.K. Shivakumar To Take Oath As Karnatakas 24th Chief Minister On June 3 Daily Udaipur

Bengaluru, June 3: A significant political shift is set to take place in Karnataka today. Senior Congress leader D.K. Shivakumar will be sworn in as the state’s 24th Chief Minister. The oath-taking ceremony is scheduled for 4 PM at the Vidhana Soudha in Bengaluru. Shivakumar was unanimously elected as the leader of the Congress Legislative Party on May 30, succeeding Siddaramaiah, who recently resigned from the position.

In a media interaction on Tuesday, Shivakumar announced that the list of ministers for the new cabinet would be released by the Congress high command by Wednesday morning or afternoon. He clarified that the names circulating in the media are merely speculation and that the final list will come from Delhi.

Siddaramaiah resigned from the Chief Minister‘s post on May 28, having served from May 20, 2023, to May 28, 2026. Following his tenure, the Congress leadership decided to entrust the state’s responsibilities to D.K. Shivakumar.

Political sources indicate that the new government may witness several major changes. There are discussions about including leaders supportive of Siddaramaiah in the new cabinet, as well as the possibility of appointing the son of Congress national president Mallikarjun Kharge as a minister. Additionally, there are speculations about appointing four deputy chief ministers, while around ten current ministers may be dropped from the cabinet.

The oath-taking ceremony is also being viewed as a show of strength for the Congress party. Senior leaders, including Rahul Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge, are expected to attend the event. Chief Ministers from Kerala, Telangana, and Himachal Pradesh are also likely to be present, along with M.K. Stalin and Hemant Soren.
