Cloudy Skies, Light Rain and Snow Expected in Jammu & Kashmir on April 9–10, Says IMD

Srinagar, April 9, 2025: The INDIA Meteorological Department (IMD), Srinagar, has released a fresh weather forecast for Jammu and Kashmir covering the period from April 9 to April 20, 2025. According to the forecast, the region is expected to witness a mix of cloudy skies, dry conditions, and intermittent precipitation, including light rain and snow, especially at higher altitudes.

Rain and Snow Alert for April 9–10

The IMD has predicted generally cloudy weather on April 9 and 10, with intermittent light rain and snowfall across most parts of the Union Territory. Isolated places may also experience thunderstorms and gusty winds reaching speeds of 30 to 40 kmph. Higher reaches in districts such as Gulmarg, Sonamarg, Kupwara, and Pahalgam may witness light snow accumulation.

Partial Relief and Improved Weather by April 11

On April 11, the weather is expected to remain generally overcast during the early hours with light precipitation at some locations. However, weather conditions are forecast to improve later in the day, leading to dry intervals across many parts of the region.

Dry Spell from April 12–17

From April 12 to April 17, Jammu and Kashmir is expected to experience mostly dry and stable weather. This period will bring a temporary break from rain and snow, with better visibility and travel conditions expected for both residents and tourists.

Another Wet Spell Between April 18–20

The IMD also warned of another approaching western disturbance expected to bring fresh rain and snow across the region from April 18 to April 20. This upcoming spell may impact higher altitudes and could result in minor travel disruptions.

  • Tourists and pilgrims planning travel to hilly areas are advised to check local forecasts regularly.

  • The administration may issue travel advisories on specific days when gusty winds or snowfall are expected.

  • Residents in avalanche-prone zones should remain alert during precipitation periods.
