AK-47, Explosives Recovered; Operation Ongoing in Maoist Stronghold
Kondagaon/Raipur, April 16: In a significant victory against Maoist insurgents, security forces gunned down two dreaded Naxals during a fierce overnight encounter in Chhattisgarh’s Kondagaon district. The incident occurred in the forested region of Markam Pal near the Kondagaon-Narayanpur border.

Confirming the development, Superintendent of Police Akshay Kumar stated that both insurgents were high-ranking Maoist cadres—identified as Haldar and Rame. Haldar, a Divisional Committee head, carried a bounty of ₹8 lakh, while Rame, an Area Committee Member, had a ₹5 lakh reward on his head.
Encounter Details and Weapon Seizure
Inspector General of Police, Bastar Range, Sundarraj P., revealed that the gunfight erupted late Tuesday evening when teams from the District Reserve Guard (DRG) and Bastar Fighters launched an anti-Maoist operation based on intelligence about Naxal presence in the Kilam-Bargum forest zone.
Following a heavy exchange of fire, security personnel recovered two bodies from the site. The forces also seized an AK-47 rifle, another firearm, explosive materials, and daily-use items belonging to the insurgents.
Ongoing Search Operation
Security forces have intensified the search operation in and around the encounter site to flush out any remaining Maoist elements. The operation is part of a broader crackdown aimed at dismantling the Maoist network across the Bastar region.
This encounter adds to the growing list of successful operations carried out by security forces in recent months and is seen as a major step towards restoring peace in the conflict-ridden region.
