New Delhi, April 20: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has issued a three-line whip to all its Members of Parliament (MPs) in both the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha for the upcoming parliamentary session. The party has mandated that all MPs must be present in the house from April 16 to April 18, with no leave permitted during this period. This directive is specifically aimed at facilitating crucial legislative work related to the ‘Women’s Empowerment Bill.’
Earlier, a draft bill concerning amendments to this act was approved in a Cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The government has extended the budget session to convene a special parliamentary session from April 16 to April 18, during which discussions and the passage of this bill will take place.
Prime Minister Modi has also written to the floor leaders of all parties, urging their support for this legislation. In his letter, he emphasized that the time has come for the ‘Women’s Empowerment Bill’ to be effectively implemented nationwide, ensuring equal political representation opportunities for women.
According to the government, once approved by Parliament, this law will come into effect on March 31, 2029, and its impact will first be seen in the Lok Sabha elections that year. This act is considered a historic step towards enhancing women’s political participation.
Political activities surrounding the special session have intensified, with strategic meetings taking place among various parties. A comprehensive debate on this bill is anticipated in the coming days, drawing the attention of the entire nation.
