Jaipur, April 20: The political discourse surrounding women’s empowerment in Rajasthan has intensified once again. State Congress President Govind Singh Dotasra has directed sharp criticism at the BJP, stating that when the opportunity arose to choose a Chief Minister, the party did not promote any women candidates. He accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of merely attempting to create a political narrative, while failing to demonstrate genuine efforts to promote women’s leadership. Dotasra emphasized that if the BJP were truly committed to women’s empowerment, there would be at least one example of a female Chief Minister in a major state.
During a press conference at the Congress office on April 19, Dotasra referenced the party’s history, noting that Congress has consistently provided women with opportunities in top leadership roles. He pointed out that the country has had powerful women leaders, such as Indira Gandhi as Prime Minister, Meira Kumar as Speaker of the Lok Sabha, and Pratibha Patil as President. Additionally, Sheila Dikshit served as Chief Minister of Delhi for 15 years, while Sonia Gandhi led the Congress party and parliamentary group for an extended period.
Dotasra remarked that these examples illustrate that women can be empowered not just through slogans, but by providing them with real leadership opportunities. He accused the BJP of treating women’s empowerment merely as a political issue, while Congress has implemented it in practice.
