Split Fiction on Switch 2 Will Be Playable With Original Switch Users via GameShare, Confirms EA

Electronic Arts has announced that Split Fiction, the acclaimed co-op title from Hazelight Studios, will be fully playable between Nintendo Switch 2 and original Switch users through the upcoming GameShare feature, despite the game being exclusive to the newer hardware. This announcement slightly contradicts earlier information from Nintendo about the GameShare system’s compatibility rules.

Split Fiction and GameShare Explained

GameShare is a new feature debuting alongside the Nintendo Switch 2, launching June 5, 2025. It allows two users to locally play a game together with only one copy of a compatible title. In a new blog post, EA clarified that not only can a Switch 2 owner initiate GameShare, but they can also share games like Split Fiction with original Switch users, enabling local co-op even across generations.

“GameShare will enable Nintendo Switch 2 owners to invite another player to play together over a local wireless connection using just one copy of the game. This ‘other player’ can be not only a Nintendo Switch 2 owner but a Nintendo Switch owner as well,” EA stated.

This is a notable departure from Nintendo’s earlier guidance, which claimed only Switch 1-compatible games could be shared between the two consoles. Since Split Fiction is exclusive to the Switch 2 and not launching on the original Switch, this raises interesting questions about broader compatibility through GameShare.

Additional Features: Friend’s Pass & Cross Play

Split Fiction on Switch 2 will also support:

• Friend’s Pass Play co-op online with a friend who doesn’t own the game.

• Cross Play Join players on PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series S/X, and Switch 2 using an EA Account.

These additions continue Hazelight’s tradition of co-op innovation, further supported by the game’s $49.99 price tag and Switch 2 launch on June 5.

Pre-Orders and Availability

Pre-orders for Split Fiction on Nintendo Switch 2 will open April 24. The game has already launched on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S back in March, and it will now be a Switch 2 day-one title.
