Jodhpur, April 18 In a tragic accident late Thursday night, nine camels were killed and two were critically injured when a speeding vehicle rammed into a camel herd crossing the Bharatmala Highway near Laxman Nagar toll plaza in the Bhojasar area of Phalodi, RAJASTHAN. The vehicle fled the scene, leaving a trail of carnage that shocked local residents.

Incident Details
According to Bhojasar SHO Ashok Kumar Vishnoi, the accident occurred around midnight when a group of camels was crossing the Gujarat-Punjab highway. A high-speed unidentified vehicle hit the animals, killing several on the spot.
The next morning, villagers spotted the lifeless camels sprawled across the road and immediately alerted authorities. Enraged locals blocked the highway in protest, demanding immediate safety measures on the busy route.
Locals Demand Safety Reforms
Protesters expressed serious concern over the reckless speeding on the Bharatmala Expressway, claiming that since the project began, the number of accidents involving animals has increased drastically. They demanded the installation of animal crossing warning signs, increased night patrolling, and speed regulation enforcement on the highway.
Police and administrative officials arrived on the scene around 9 AM. A veterinary team was deployed to treat the injured camels. The injured animals were later moved off the highway, and traffic resumed after police successfully negotiated with the protesters.
